Math 104.01
Plan for Week 4
Week 4 (September 22-26). In class on Monday, we will consider two types of applications of linear systems and matrix multiplication. Then we will expand on the properties of the matrix operations introduced in the lab on Friday. This week we will concentrate on inverses of matrices.
Assignment for Wednesday, Sept. 24
Write out and turn in solutions to the following exercises in Section 1.9:
Write out and turn in solutions to the following exercises in Section 2.1:
Lab on Friday, September 26
This week we will work the first two parts of the lab "Inverses and Elementary Matrices." You should answer questions 1-7 in the Summary.
In order to use your time in the lab efficiently, you should:
- Read over the web pages before coming to the lab.
- Be on time so your team can start on time. (We have the lab reserved starting at 9:00. There will be free machines in the lab rooms before then as well.)
Lab Notes
- In Maple, the inverse operation on matrices can be executed by the inverse command
inverse(A);
or by entering
A^(-1);
- New lines can be obtained in a Maple region (without starting a calculation) by pressing the Return and Shift keys together.
Assignment for Monday, 9/29/97
Write out and turn in solutions to the following exercises in Section 2.2:
Read Section 2.3. See how many parts of Theorem 8 you know from class or lab.
