Commuting to Duke: a Data Science Story
Abstract:
What if a new parking garage could go un-built due to a private rail-hailing service for Duke employees? To explore this scenario through simulation, a realistic set of commuting data was needed. How can datasets be combined to make a good guess as to when and from where people commute to work? This talk will tell the story of how this was done, and what we learned about new forms of mobility. In the process we'll contemplate the nature of data science.
