Two studies on buckling, snap-through, and unstable equilibria in post-buckled structures
Abstract:- Unstable equilibria in structures with conservative restoring forces play a dominant role in dictating the nature of the global structural dynamics. Of course, in the (inevitably) imperfect experimental context, these equilibria are also unobservable. The first part of this presentation will introduce the use of transient response under impact loading to experimentally identify unstable equilibria in buckled beams. The second part instead focuses on the modeling of unstable static equilibria, in particular on a relationship between Euler buckling mode shapes and snap-through.
