A Generalization of the Penrose Inequality (part 1)
Abstract:
The Penrose Inequality is a geometric statement that estimates the total mass of an asymptotically-flat manifold in terms of the area of its boundary, provided the boundary is an outer-minimizing minimal surface. In this two-part series of talks I will discuss recent progress toward a version of this inequality that holds without geometric constraints on the boundary.

The first talk will be introductory and friendly to those without much background in general relativity and geometric analysis. I will also discuss some applications. The second talk will be more technical and will focus on how the inequality might be proven.
