Some Problems in Combinatorics, Matrix Integrals and Virasoro Relation
Abstract:
Many problems in combinatorics arising in random matrices have generating functions which are matrix integrals which moreover upon deformation satisfy integrable systems. Thus one can use both the tools of integrable systems and matrix model theory, like Virasoro relations, to study these generating functions and derive differntial equations for them, like for instance Painleve equations or diffusion equations. We study four such examples from word problems to random walks and indicate the methods used. The talk should be accessible to graduate students or they get their money back.
