Uniformization of some higher weight variations of Hodge structure
Abstract:
I will explain some differential-geometric techniques and results that can be used to give uniformizations of some variations of Hodge structure with Hodge numbers (1,1,1,1). In particular, I will explain how local conditions on the Kodaira-Spencer maps imply that the monodromy representation is "Anosov", which is a global geometric property. The methods apply for example to the mirror quintic (aka Dwork, aka Fermat) family and yield a strong Torelli theorem, as well as a number of further consequences.
