Schur indices and torus partition functions
Abstract:
A few years ago, a novel correspondence between four-dimensional N=2 superconformal field theories (SCFTs) and two-dimensional chiral algebras was discovered. One consequence of this correspondence is the realization that the so-called Schur limit of the superconformal index of a four-dimensional N=2 SCFT computes the (graded) torus partition function of the associated chiral algebra. In this talk, I will show that this statement can be derived (and could have been derived all along, inevitably leading the way to the discovery of the correspondence itself) directly from the path integral integral formulation of the index as a partition function on S3xS1 using localization techniques.
