The online materials represent a second edition of materials created in the early 90s as part of the NSF-sponsored calculus initiative, Project CALC and published as Calculus: Modeling and Application. You can view the online second edition at
.The faculty at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland have finished the second year using this text. We anticipate additional test sites in the 2008-09 academic year.
We are incorporating Flash applets in the materials. See Section 2.4.3 for an example.
We are dividing the end-of-section exercises into two categories: Exercises and Problems. The exercises will be available online using the WeBWorK online homework software. See Section 4.5 for an example. We will demonstrate the WeBWorK system during the workshop.
Troy Henderson is redrawing all the figures as SVG graphics. This will make the figures more consistent, enable them to scale with changes in text size (once Firefox 3 goes into prime time), and make some pages load faster.
We are adding more projects at the end of chapters. Some of these were in the first edition; some come from materials on the Connected Curriculum Project web site; and some are entirely new.
By the time of the workshop, we should have a complete set of Mathematica worksheets to complement the existing Maple and Mathcad ones. We are considering the use of SAGE, an open-source and free computer algebra system, as another CAS alternative. We are also developing a Search/Browse capability to function as an index for the text.
