Modules for Differential Calculus

MATHCAD TUTOR

Part 1: Elementary Calculations

MathCad  works much like a worksheet. The difference is it does not have the work sheet gridded into cells.   The Cells are created when you enter an expression.
  1. To perform a simple calculation, point the mouse to the location you want and type

and then press RETURN or ENTER.

  2. Move to a new location and enter

  3. Move to a new location and enter

  4. 4. Move to a new location and enter

Now you know how to add, subtract , multiply and divide in MathCad. If you find that any of your fields are too close together, you may drag it to a new location by first clicking anywhere on the expression, then pointing at the outline (You will see a hand.). Hold the left mouse button down and drag the field to the new location.

Many of the operations that you will want to do in MathCad are best done from the pallets. The pallets are located either on the upper tool bar or on the right hand side.

  1. To raise the number 2 to the power 3, click on the calculator symbol, then choose the x^y  symbol. Fill in the lower box with 2 and the upper with 3. Type = , then ENTER. You should see

  2. To calculate the square root of 9, use the pallet to enter
