Functions Defined by Data

Part 6: Summary

In this module we have explored functional relationships represented by sets of discrete data: first-class postage as a function of time, numbers of AIDS cases as a function of time, and Federal deficits as a function of time -- or perhaps substitutes for these from the optional data sets in Part 5.

Be sure you are familiar with the commands in your computer algebra system for carrying out the following basic operations:

If you are not sure how to do any of these things, you should review appropriate parts of the module.

In addition, you should have at least an intuitive sense of how to extract information from both numerical tables and scatter plots, and you should be developing your ability to express this information and your judgments about it in complete sentences and paragraphs. In subsequent modules we will work on more systematic ways to analyze information and make judgments.
