Part 1: Basic operations

  1. Experiment with your computer algebra system's commands for dot (or inner) product and for length (or norm) of a vector. Use randomly generated vectors, and re-enter the commands several times to confirm the patterns you see. Detailed instructions are in your lab file.
  2. Now enter the matrix A defined in your worksheet, and calculate ATA. What do you conclude about the columns of A? Check by using the commands from step 1.
  3. What is the rank of A? Explain how you know.
