Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors

Purpose: To experiment with the computation and use of eigenvalues and eigenvectors.

Prerequisites:

• The Helper Application Tutorial for your computer algebra system
• The ability to compute characteristic polynomials, eigenvalues and eigenvectors for 2 x 2 or 3 x 3 matrices
• Familiarity with criteria for determining whether or not a matrix is diagonalizable.
