Limited Population Growth

David A. Smith and Lawrence C. Moore, Duke University
William H. Barker, Bowdoin College
Richard M. Schori, Oregon State University

with the assistance of
John Michel, Marietta College
Purpose: To model population as a function of time in a setting where there is a maximum population M that the environment will support. More specifically, to see that we can develop a graphical model from assumptions about the rate of change -- without any knowledge of an algebraic form for the model function.

Prerequisites: Work through the tutorial module for your helper application. The concept of derivative as instantaneous rate of change is also needed.
